and soon I can see the shore

I can't believe it took my two months to finish two pictures. I really have to learn to work faster, because that's just silly.

Good grief, what on earth have I been doing this year? My last finished piece if from December. That's just not right!

Oh! Also, I want to take a quick moment to recommend :icontentopet:'s perspective grids, which are on her website. I've never been very good with perspective, so they were an immense help with one of my latest pieces. They're probably more useful in Photoshop because you can flip them around or stretch/squash them, etc., but you could also print them out to use with traditional media.

Hey, guys. I've had a family thing happening lately, with my grandmother being ill, so I apologize (again, for the Nth time) for being unproductive and not finishing the gift art I promised to people. My grandmother is fine, so don't worry, her heart rate just jumped up very high all of a sudden, so she's in the hospital having some tests done. I'm not worried anymore, but I didn't get much sleep the last couple of nights.

I'm hoping to hear back about a job here soon, at a local gallery, but at the same time I'm not going to get my hopes up too high. Still, that has sort of preoccupied my thoughts, along with stress at my current job. Those are pretty lame excuses for not finishing things that I promised I would a month ago, though.

Anyway. Not much for me to do except keep working. I admit that part of my problem is that I am never satisfied with anything and have spent several days just scrapping the compositions and starting from scratch. I feel like they're awkward and not good enough for something that is a gift. I want them to be the best I know they can, and that actually hinders me in the end, because I spend too long worrying about them rather than working on them. It's a problem I've pretty much always had, and it's why I'm such a slow artist compared to many other people I know. I really dislike that and want to change it, but it's going to take gradual steps before that happens.

I'm sorry, this is the fun-vee.

Everyone seen Iron Man? Yes? No? You should. I loved it. I'm planning to see it again, since we went at the last minute and ended up in the second row, and it would be great to see it from a normal distance this time.

Just wanted to check in and let my kiriban winners know that I haven't forgotten them. I'm a perfectionist when doing something for someone else, so bear with me. I keep changing things and starting over, but I will eventually decide that they are good enough for you.

Also, I think I may have to attempt to do some Iron Man fanart. Just to get it out of my system. We'll see.

OVER 9,000

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 29, 2008, 5:56 AM
(Hahaha, that over 9,000 thing is still funny to me. Don't give me that look, I know it's old, but it still makes me giggle.)

Whoa, I didn't realize that I was so close to 10,000 page views! Craaazy. Of course, considering that I've been on DA for almost five years (!!!), it's really not that much.

Anyway! If you just happen to catch that 10k and you screencap it, let me know and I'll draw you a request of some sort! Promise.

On that note, I went through and purged a lot of stuff from my gallery, mostly stuff that I drew back in '04-'05. My gallery looks so bare now! I left most of my old Big-O art, but I did get rid of a few pieces that hurt to look at. That stuff still gets a lot of favs/comments, so I feel bad deleting it, but at the same time, I feel like I need to get rid of old things in order to better reflect my current abilities. I could have just scrapped them, but I dunno, I feel better just getting rid of them altogether. Anyway, if I got rid of something you especially liked, let me know and I'll re-upload it into scraps or something.

Also! I've taken to drawing in a big 11x14 sketchbook, and man is it a pain to scan that stuff! That's partly why I don't have much to show lately-- it's all in this huge book that I'm too lazy to scan. So, does anyone know much about scanners with large beds? We had a huge 11x17 at school, but darn if I can find one anywhere around here or even know where to start looking. Suggestions? Should I just suck it up and sit there scanning everything in two parts?

Better, and still better one day.

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 13, 2008, 8:01 PM
I really need to get that gloomy, down-on-myself entry off my front page. Especially because it's been four months since then and I'm not feeling nearly so down anymore. I've been in a frenzy working on art and looking for jobs, so that's why I've been so inactive.

I want to (again) thank everyone who has faved any of my art or left me a comment. I do read everything, but most days I'm in a hurry and unable to properly thank anyone or reply. I'm very, very grateful to anyone who enjoys my art, and I hope everyone knows that.

Back to the drawing board. :work:
